Set Default Values for Any Field Type

It would be helpful if we could set default values for any fields, not just selection lists. Examples of where this would be helpful are with date fields (would be nice to default to "Now" or "Today") and we have some processes/forms/records that auditors are particularly interested in. Auditors are known for not liking blank or empty fields. So being able to default to "N/A" or '0' depending on the field type would be nice and would save some time.

I get it, makes sense. We will assess this idea when we revisit alignment of the field types. There are a few more properties we are considering to align amongst the various field types. Meanwhile you could tackle this with a workflow that sets values when left blank on entry.
